AFLW-Listed Players

Geelong booked its spot in the rebel VFLW Grand Final with a 28-point win over Essendon at Windy Hill on the weekend. After scores were all tied up half-time, the Cats came out and kicked four goals to none in the second half to make their second VFLW Grand Final.

Rebecca Webster and Sophie Van De Heuvel controlled the midfield for the Cats, collecting 29 and 20 disposals respectively. Webster had a best-on-ground on display that also included nine clearances and seven inside 50s in a dominant performance.

Geelong’s recent additions to its AFLW List Claudia Gunjaca and Annabel Johnson also played crucial roles in the win. Johnson finished with a goal from 16 disposals while Gunjaca finished with 19 touches.

Georgia Clarke made it seven goals in two games with her three before she was hindered by an injury in the second half.

Georgie Prespakis, playing against the side that drafted her during the week, played her role in the midfield collecting 17 disposals, 12 tackles, eight clearances and a goal in the loss. 

State League Players

Renee Tierney sealed the win for the Cats with two goals in the last quarter, the majors were also her first ever at VFLW level.

Maddy Boyd’s experience was on display in defence where she teamed up with Maddie Keryk to stop all Essendon’s forays forward, keeping them goalless in the second half.

For the Bombers it was Georgia Nascawen leading the way with 26 disposals, 10 tackles and five clearances.

Eloise Ashley-Cooper and Tasmin Crook were also among the Bombers' best for their efforts in the prelim.

CANBERRA 

State League Players 

Ainslie Tricolours jumped to the top of the UNSW Canberra First Grade competition with a five-point win over the Queanbeyan Tigers. The Tigers mounted a comeback in the final quarter but just fell short.

Emylee Hawke was the best for the Tricolours in the win and Eleanor Bishop was also among the best for her efforts.

Queanbeyan’s Mindy Quade was integral to the Tigers' fightback, kicking three of her team's four goals to almost get them across the line.

The Eastlake Demons caused an upset against the Belconnen Magpies, coming away 21-point winners.

Catherine Brown and Karina Demant combined for seven goals with Brown’s four-goal performance the standout display of the day.

Former Giant Maggie Gorham kicked two goals in the Magpies' loss and GWS’ recent draftee Ally Morphett appeared in Belconnen’s best as well.

Tuggeranong Valley notched its third win of the season with a 78-point victory over the Gunghalin Jets.

Tuggeranong Valley had nine individual goalkickers in the win but it was Kiarna Woolley-Blain’s two-goal performance that won her the votes in the win.
