THE SOCIAL media abuse of AFLW star Tayla Harris was the straw that broke the camel's back, say Credit to the Girls podcast hosts Nat Edwards, Sarah Black and Lucy Watkin.

Harris found herself at the centre of a media storm after an extraordinary action shot of her by AFL Media photographer Michael Willson attracted comments Edwards described as "abhorrent and disgusting".

"What prompted this outpouring of support for Tayla is that we have all seen these comments over the past three years," Black said on the latest episode.
"It's constant, it never ends.
"It's an ongoing thing to say, 'Never read the comments under AFLW articles'. I don't read the comments under my articles anymore because I know what they're going to be. I never go to the Facebook comments in particular."
Watkin said many media organisations were scared to moderate comments because of concerns over freedom of speech.
"But some of things being said about Tayla Harris were so much bigger than that," she said.
"Some were sexual abuse, some were harassment, some were just blatant misogyny. And they are the ones you have to get rid of, because that's just not OK."
