  • Adelaide, 10.8 (68) v Melbourne. It's the fifth week in succession the Crows have been the round's highest scorer. They are averaging a competition-high 57 points per game.

Lowest score

  • Melbourne, 1.2 (8) v Adelaide. The Demons had a nightmare against Adelaide. Scoreless to half-time, they managed to scrape through three scoring shots in the second half to finish with the equal-lowest score of the season.

GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY 6.5 (41) def GEELONG 1.4 (10)

  • Geelong squandered a golden opportunity to sew up a finals spot (instead of relying on results to fall its way), struggling to hit the scoreboard in the 31-point loss.
  • The Giants' star young midfielder Alyce Parker was best-afield with 19 disposals, six clearances and five tackles in her strongest game for the season.
  • The Cats were beaten on the outside, with the Giants having 43 more uncontested possessions. Geelong had 22 inside-50s but just five scoring shots, struggling with that final disposal to their forwards.
  • The match marked both a beginning and an end for the Giants. With both sides wearing black armbands after the Christchurch terrorist attack, Haneen Zreika kicked her first goal while Courtney Gum announced her retirement.

ADELAIDE 10.8 (68) def MELBOURNE 1.2 (8)

  • Melbourne controlled play for the first five minutes but couldn't score. After two quick goals from Crow Ailish Considine, it was the last time the Dees had any say in the match.
  • Adelaide's defence – including Chelsea Randall, Sarah Allen, Marijana Racjic and Ange Foley – was outstanding, with players confidently peeling off their direct opponent and intercepting at will.
  • The Crows were dominant despite the competition's leading goalkickers, Stevie-Lee Thompson and Erin Phillips, scoring just one goal between them. Adelaide had seven other goalkickers.
  • The Dees were scoreless until the third term, with defender Chantel Emonson the unlikely drought-breaker with a fourth-quarter goal.

FREMANTLE 7.10 (52) def NORTH MELBOURNE 4.1 (25)

  • This was an elimination final in everything but name, with the winner qualifying for a preliminary final. Fremantle was a step ahead for the entire match.
  • Once again, it was the sheer weight of inside-50s that assisted Fremantle, which finished with 38 entries. The Dockers average 33 a game, the second-highest in the competition behind Adelaide.
  • North Melbourne captain Emma Kearney played one of her best games for the club when the stakes were high, finishing with 24 disposals, nine clearances, seven tackles and a stunning goal from the boundary.
  • Fremantle didn't get out of the match unscathed. There were concerns integral midfielder Dana Hooker may have injured her knee, but she said in a post-match interview it was a knock to her quad. There are bigger concerns about lively forward Sabreena Duffy, who looked in pain with an ankle injury.

COLLINGWOOD 3.7 (25) def BRISBANE 2.7 (19)

  • The Magpies started well and finished with their first win of the season, just reward for a solid recent run of form that saw some of their younger players show plenty. Young forward Sarah D'Arcy enjoyed another solid outing with 11 marks and two goals.  
  • Ash Brazill (23 disposals, including 19 kicks) was Collingwood's best, shutting down the dangerous Jess Wuestchner.
  • A win would likely have seen the Lions qualify for a preliminary spot, but they weren't able to deliver. Their slow start had them on the back foot, and despite a second-half turnaround, they failed to catch the Pies, with poor kicking at goal proving costly.
  • Former Carlton skipper Lauren Arnell tried hard for Brisbane, finishing with 21 disposals and seven tackles. 

CARLTON 6.5 (41) def WESTERN BULLDOGS 5.8 (38)

  • Although the Blues knew they would be playing in a preliminary final before this match started, they were determined to win and held the Dogs goalless for the first three quarters.
  • Carlton had plenty of contributors, with captain Bri Davey busy (21 disposals and 11 tackles) and rugby sevens converts Brooke Walker and Chloe Dalton combining for five goals.
  • The Dogs had solid patches in the early part of the game but couldn't convert. They came alive in the last quarter and threatened to overhaul a big last-change deficit with five goals. 
  • Monique Conti is a genuine playmaker, her vision and ability to bring others into the action on show. The dual-sport star (she also excels in basketball) finished with 25 disposals, four marks and three tackles.
