GEELONG star Nina Morrison looks raring to go as the Cats hit the track for the start of pre-season.

The former No.1 pick has had a horror run with serious injury, playing just seven games since her debut in 2019 and sitting out the entire 2021 season.

At her very best, Morrison is a line-breaking midfielder, and can dominate as either an inside or outside midfielder. The Cats will be desperate to get her back on the field after the departure of Liv Purcell to Melbourne.

Morrison also showed off a stunning mullet on the track, and is raising money for the Black Dog Institute's Mullets for Mental Health fundraiser alongside inactive teammate Millie Brown.

In other news at Kardinia Park, former player Kate Darby is working with the Cats as a train-on player this pre-season.

The key forward sat out the 2021 season, having given birth to Ella in March.

Second-year winger Tarni Evans took out Greater Western Sydney's 2km time trial, knocking 14 seconds off her personal best.

Evans finished ahead of Lou Stephenson and Nicola Barr, who have been regular features in the top three over the past six pre-seasons.

Essendon has made its first appointments ahead of its entry in the 2022/23 season.

Charlotte Miller, currently the club's VFLW footy operations manager and AFL player welfare coordinator, will take the role of AFLW footy operations, reporting to the club's head of football Josh Mahoney.

Current VFLW coach Brendan Major will once again hold the same job in 2022, and take on an additional role as coach and player development manager.

Mahoney said the "process to appoint a senior (AFLW) coach remains ongoing."

Harmit Singh has been entrusted with the club's crucial first AFLW list build as AFLW recruiting manager, while Georgia Harvey has been named player contract manager.

The Western Bulldogs have locked in their coaching panel for the 2022 NAB AFLW season.

Retired Saint Dylan Roberton (forwards) and James Kennedy (ruck, from Eastern Ranges) have been signed up, while AFL Dog Josh Bruce will work as a development coach as he recovers from a torn ACL.

The Dogs had previously announced former AFLW players Melissa Hickey (backline coach) and Kirby Bentley (development coach) had joined the club, while Natalie Wood retains her midfield role.

Jack Fitzpatrick and Marcus Abney-Hastings have moved on from last season's coaching group.

Collingwood has also made some changes, adding two new faces to its assistant coaches.

Chris Gamble (defence, most recently Frankston VFL) and Martha Cantwell (development coach, Melbourne Uni women's and Calder Cannons) have joined the club, while Jason Brown has changed from runner and skills coach to forwards coach.

Scott Gowans (senior assistant, midfield), Jordan Roughead (specialist coach) and Chloe McMillan (VFLW senior coach and AFLW development) maintain their roles, and former forwards coach James Debono will act as a specialist coach until his secondment from the Australian Army finishes.
