RICHMOND has confirmed an AFLW player has tested positive to COVID-19.

The Tigers are one of at least several clubs to also be using rapid antigen testing before each session on top of their weekly PCR test, and the positive case was picked up before Saturday's session.

All Victorian players must have had one COVID-19 vaccination jab by Friday as part of their Victorian Government approved worker permit, and the Tigers confirmed every player had adhered to the regulation.

"In line with current government advice, all program members who attended the club at the prior training session on Thursday, October 14, have remained isolated," a Richmond statement said.

"While the person did not enter the facility or mix with people at the club on Saturday, out of an abundance of caution, all other members of the Richmond AFLW bubble were tested over the weekend, with each returning a negative result.

"The club will work with the AFL and Victorian Department of Health to determine when the program can resume."

Although the AFL program is on leave, men's players have continued to use the gym facilities at the club.

However, there is no crossover between the men's and women's allocated gym times, and the equipment is cleaned in between programs.

Womens.afl has confirmed a number of clubs are using rapid antigen testing as an additional layer of harm minimisation, including Collingwood, GWS, Melbourne, North Melbourne and Richmond.

CROW SAYS NO Dual premiership player refuses COVID-19 vaccination

Given the comparatively low number of positive cases in the region, Geelong is currently only using it with its Melbourne-based players before they enter the club for a training session, but could expand it to the whole program in the future.
