INAUGURAL Carlton player and proud Kamilaroi woman Nat Plane says Indigenous Round is a great opportunity to learn and celebrate the diversity of Indigenous groups around the country.
Carlton will celebrate its Indigenous Round this week in front of a home crowd against Gold Coast, wearing its Indigenous jumper designed by Brooke Sutton.
"We get to celebrate Aboriginal culture, and the contribution that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have made to the AFL," Plane told Credit to the Girls podcast.
"The AFL is a massive thing in Australia, and can advocate Indigenous culture. Everyone loves AFL, everyone plays [Aussie rules], so I think having Indigenous round in the AFL is really important.
"The AFL has so many different mobs represented both on and off the field, you get to show all different types and the diversity of the First Nations people.
"It's really exciting, we can educate the wider community about Aboriginal culture, but it's really cool to see not just myself, but other Aboriginal people celebrate and show how proud they are to be Indigenous.
"We get to be loud, proud and embrace our culture, which is pretty cool."
