The AFL has released the Victoria Country and Victoria Metro squads for the match between the two sides this Sunday 20 March, the first game of the 2022 NAB AFLW National Championships – Girls U18.
The Victoria Country – Victoria Metro game will take place at Mars Stadium in Ballarat, starting at 12:00pm. It will showcase a number of future stars of the women's game who are sure to feature prominently in the 2022 NAB AFLW Draft.
The revised model for the highest standard of girls representative football, part of the AFL's Talent Pathway Program, will see matches continue across the country throughout April. In addition to the two Victorian sides, the championships will feature teams from South Australia, Western Australia, Queensland, NSW/ACT and the Allies (including players from Tasmania and Northern Territory for the first game with players from NSW/ACT incorporated into the Allies for the other two matches).
Victoria Country will be coached by Eamon Gill, with support from assistant coaches Kelly Fallon, Mario De Santa-ana and former AFLW player Sally Riley.
Jacara Egan will break new ground by being the first Indigenous woman to coach a Victorian team when she leads Victoria Metro, with her assistants being ex-AFLW player and assistant coach Lauren Morecroft as well as Lisa Roper, Hayley Gossow and Allana Dickie.
Vic Country and Vic Metro will unveil their Indigenous jumpers designed by Nakia Cadd, a Gunditjmara, Yorta Yorta, Dja Dja Wurrung, Bunitj artist who lives and creates on Wurundjeri country.
How to watch: The Victoria Country v Victoria Metro match will be live streamed free via womens.afl and the AFL Women's Live Official App. Entry at the gate is free.
