On this week's episode of What's Your Decision?, Gieschen said a decision involving Cameron Pederson and Michael Hibberd early in the third quarter, and one where Dyson Heppell was penalised when he was tackled over the line late in the fourth were wrong.
While he was pleased the umpires got six of the most contentious eight decisions correct, he said two errors were disappointing and he sympathised with Bomber fans, particularly when they vented their frustration at the Heppell decision.
"It was one of those games with lots of 50-50s, lots of action, lots happening, close scores, both teams having surges," Gieschen said.
"I can understand the Essendon fans getting uptight but it's not until you go back and look at them in isolation and review them clearly.
"The umpire doesn't have the advantage of replay, slow motion or things like that but when we went back there were two errors, we're disappointed about that but like all human beings, the umpires make errors sometimes."
Gieschen said the Heppell call, which was made in the final minutes of the game when he was tackled over the line by Liam Anthony and the Bombers trailed by 15 points, should not have been paid.
"This one was an interesting one but it was an error by the umpire," he said.
"We can see Heppell take the ball on the boundary line, [get] tackled immediately [and is] forced out of bounds - it was certainly not deliberate out of bounds and it's certainly not holding the ball because of the proximity to the boundary line.
"We would have been more comfortable with the umpire just saying throw it in.
"Essendon fans can feel rightly aggrieved about that one."
He also said Hibberd should have been awarded a free kick after being pushed in the back by Pederson in a marking contest.
Pederson was paid the mark and went on to kick a goal that put the Kangaroos 20 points up early in the third term.
"We can see Pederson take the mark but unfortunately for our umpires, they've made a mistake in that he's put his hands in the back and he's actually pushed Hibberd as well," he said.
"It certainly should have been a free kick to Hibberd for a push out or hands in the back and it's an error by the umpire."
Gieschen also reviewed decisions including Ryan Bastinac's free kick, also late in the game, when he had his arms taken by Hibberd, and the Michael Hurley-Tom Bellchambers mix up in the first quarter where either player could have been given the ball.
