MELBOURNE supporter Tony Hausknecht is calling out for all red and blue followers to get behind the club by making a banner, bringing it to Sunday's clash against Essendon at the MCG and displaying it with pride.
Hausknecht wants Melbourne supporters to write on their banners a thank you message to Jim Stynes and the board.

The idea was inspired by a group of Melbourne supporters, headed up by Hausknecht, which came about after they wanted to acknowledge Jim Stynes and the board for their tireless work since their mid-2008 appointment.

Hausknecht took the idea to the club, following conversations with fellow Melbourne supporters.

“We said it was about time to give something back to Jimmy, because of the inspiration he gives all of us,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“One of the guys suggested a banner and there were a couple of other ideas that were suggested.

“I thought the banner idea was the best of all of them and it went from there.”

Hausknecht, from Gisborne, has been following the Demons for “a long, long time”, but his passion for the club has gone to another level since moving from Queensland six years ago.

He has missed just “one or two” matches since moving to Melbourne.

The 41-year-old has two girls - a seven and one year old - with his eldest daughter already teaching her younger sibling ‘A Grand Old Flag’.

Hausknecht said Stynes’ energies and presence in reinvigorating the club had a telling influence on Melbourne supporters.

“Since he’s been on board, we know that he’s been a major part of getting the club back on its feet,” he said.

“And when Jimmy is there at the ground, it’s like a whisper goes through the supporters.”

So get creative and come to the ‘G with your best banner!

The best banner will be awarded with a $250 merchandise voucher by the club and the winner will be announced during the match on the big screen.

Please Note: As per MCC rules, any banners or flags with poles must not exceed 1.9 metres in length.
