MELBOURNE is yet to a make a decision on whether Nathan Jones will be installed as sole captain or if the club will have a trusty lieutenant alongside him in 2015.
Coach Paul Roos says the call on Melbourne's leadership structure will be made at the club's pre-season camp on the Sunshine Coast in January.
Jones is the clear standout as skipper, having jointly captained Melbourne alongside Jack Grimes last season, but with Grimes stepping down from the position citing a need to focus on his own game, the leadership structure is still up in the air.
"We've been doing a lot of stuff with the players on what the expectations are, so we probably haven't really got any preconceived ideas to be honest,” Roos told the club's website.
"I know Nathan did a really good job as captain and he won the best and fairest – and sometimes [with the] captaincy, the player can worry about everyone else except themselves.
"But Nathan had a really good balance and will continue to improve. I haven’t got any preconceived ideas, but we’ll get that sorted out at the camp. I'd imagine or have a better idea once we get out of the camp."
As coach of the Sydney Swans Roos had co-captains, with Barry Hall, Brett Kirk and Leo Barry in charge during the Swans' premiership year of 2005.
The Demons' leadership group will also be finalised at the Maroochydore camp beginning on January 12.
"It's always a fine line not to have it too big or too small," Roos said.
"It's more about the guys that want to drive the environment – they’re the ones I want to be the role models and leaders of the footy club. I’m less worried about numbers, but more about [what] their actions are."
