WEST Coast veteran Jeremy McGovern has thrown his full support behind Adam Simpson, saying he would happily tell the club's board to retain the premiership coach.

Simpson is contracted until the end of 2025 but his future is under huge doubt on the back of two underwhelming seasons.

West Coast has won just five games since the start of the 2022 campaign, with its 101-point loss to Fremantle a fortnight ago seemingly the final nail in the coffin for Simpson.

But last weekend's shock seven-point win over the Western Bulldogs has revived hopes the coach could still be retained, with an online petition launched to keep him on.

The petition has attracted more than 3600 signatures already, with Eagles fans even rocking up to training this week armed with banners of support for Simpson.

West Coast will bid farewell to retiring stars Luke Shuey, Nic Naitanui and Shannon Hurn in Saturday night's clash with Adelaide at Optus Stadium.

As well as the players, it could also be Simpson's final game but McGovern hopes the 47-year-old remains at the helm for years to come.

"I'm 100 per cent behind him. I'd love to see him keep coaching for as long as he can," McGovern told reporters on Thursday.

"He's been a great coach here for a long period of time. Hopefully that can continue.

"We've had some success with him. He knows what it's like to build a successful team."

McGovern said he would happily press Simpson's case to the club's board if they asked him for his opinion.

"I don't go out of my way to go and see those guys," he said.

"But if they asked for that feedback, of course I'd tell them exactly what I think ... and I think he should be here. He should be coaching us."

Simpson made a notable change to the gameplan two years ago but he hasn't been able to implement it properly due to a huge amount of injuries over that period.

McGovern is optimistic Simpson's changes will work once the club has a clean bill of health.

Hurn and Shuey will return from injury to play in Saturday's farewell game, but Naitanui (Achilles tendon surgery) will be honoured from the sidelines.

McGovern said the playing group were desperate to farewell the trio with a win.

"We'd love to send these boys out on a high note," McGovern said.

"Whether we get the win or not, giving absolute effort and leaving nothing out there would be something they'd respect and be pretty proud of."

McGovern, 31, will become the oldest player on the list next season. He recently signed a two-year contract extension that locks him in until 2025.
