WHILE thrilled to come away from the SCG with the four premiership points, Western Bulldogs midfielder Koby Stevens says there still plenty of work to do if the club is to achieve its potential.

The Bulldogs overcame the rain and a determined Sydney Swans outfit on Saturday afternoon to post their first win at the SCG in seven years, with Easton Wood's volleyed goal from mid-air inside the final six minutes of the match proving the sealer in the 11.11 (77) to 10.13 (73) victory.

Sitting inside the top eight with a 4-1 win-loss record ahead of this week's clash with St Kilda, the win over the Swans is likely to raise expectations among the Bulldog faithful about what the team could achieve in 2015.

However, the 23-year-old Stevens cautions there is still a long way to go in the home-and-away season.

Asked after Saturday's match if the team had the ability to make the finals, Stevens said: "It's round five, but that's the end goal."

"We don't want to get too carried away, we will just take it one game at a time and just keep growing as a group and keep getting better."

Stevens was among the Bulldogs' better players in what was an even team performance, finishing the afternoon with 24 touches, four marks and six tackles. 

The Bulldogs applied strong pressure on the Swans throughout the match and forced a number of turnovers that resulted in goals. 

And when they had the footy, they ran hard in numbers and moved the ball quickly into an often-open forward line.

"Our assertiveness in the contest was really good," Stevens said.

"Our ball movement – there's no exact way we want to move the ball – but at the moment it is really quick and it has been good so far.

"We are just taking teams on and taking risks."
