SAM MITCHELL will wear No.1 at West Coast in 2017, replacing the No.5 he wore with distinction in his 307-game career at Hawthorn.
With No.5 occupied by defender Brad Sheppard, Mitchell assumes the guernsey number most recently worn by delisted key backman Nathan Brown.
Mitchell's fellow veteran recruit Drew Petrie will also switch numbers in 2017, swapping the No.20 he wore in 316 games at North Melbourne for No.21 at the Eagles. Brant Colledge (2014-15) was the last to wear that number at West Coast.
New Eagle not there to make up numbers
Ex-Cat Nathan Vardy will assume No.19, which was vacated by Damien Cavka's premature retirement. Vardy wore No.30 at Geelong in his 25 games over six seasons.
West Coast draftees Daniel Venables (No.13), Josh Rotham (No.35), Willie Rioli (No.44) and Jake Waterman (No.45) have been allocated their new numbers, as have new rookies Tom Gorter (No.40) and Tarir Bayok (No.42).
