Collingwood’s skipper Nick Maxwell was confident that once the decision to appeal the rough conduct charge was made by the club, the result would go in his favour.
“I was always confident I did the right thing and that today’s result would go in my favour,” Maxwell told Collingwoodfc.com.au after the appeal was upheld by the AFL Appeals Board at Telstra Dome on Friday 20 February.
"I am happy the issue has been resolved and now we can move on."
Maxwell conceded that if it wasn’t for a late suggestion by club president Eddie McGuire, the outcome could have been different.
“It was a late decision to appeal and I think I have to thank Eddie on that one.”
The skipper missed training on Friday due to the appeal but will rejoin his teammates next week in time for the NAB Cup round two clash against Richmond on Wednesday.
“It’s been a little distracting on a personal level but now I have six days to prepare for the upcoming match against Richmond.”
Maxwell was adamant that the lengthy appeals process he and the club have had to endure would not change the way he plays the game.
“I play with instinct.
“I will still shepherd and have a duty of care to the opponent as I did in the contest against West Coast."
