COLLINGWOOD star Dane Swan will have a better idea of his future after Wednesday's foot surgery.
The Brownlow medallist has had to wait nearly a fortnight for the swelling to subside after his horrific injury in the round-one loss to Sydney.
Swan has three broken bones in his right foot, including a lisfranc fracture.
"He's been couch-bound, so he'll be very keen to get an answer," Magpies football manager Neil Balme told the club website.
"Let's hope it goes very well."
It is unclear whether the 32-year-old will play again this season and beyond.
Meanwhile, ruckman Jarrod Witts (split webbing in his hand) and Tim Broomhead (shoulder) have recovered from their injuries and are set to play this week.
The news isn't as good for Travis Varcoe, who appears unlikely to recover from his hamstring strain in time for Saturday's match against St Kilda.
"I think he's just going to come a day or two short," Balme said.
"He's pretty good and there's a chance that he might play.
"But I think it's more likely that we'll wait until the weekend after to make sure that hamstring is fully repaired."
