IN ONE week there will be a new batch of dual-position players. The final group of players gaining an extra position is usually fairly light on for Fantasy relevance, but coaches in deep Draft leagues can often find some gold to help them through the final weeks of the season.

Consider the midfielders who you've been noticing playing either forward or back.

FANTASY FORM WATCH The Pig delivers again on tough week for coaches

Available in the majority of leagues, Chris Mayne is a chance to gain defender status as is Chris Masten. Many pundits have noticed David Zaharakis has spent some time playing in the backline. If he gains defender status, he will help his owners on the way to the finals.

First-year Saint Nick Hind may become a MID/FWD based on his role that has seen him inside the forward 50 for the majority of his four senior games.

Defenders

Ryan Burton, DEF, Port Adelaide (ADP 189, 43 per cent)

You have to take the good with the bad when it comes to defenders. His 69 against the Bulldogs in round 15 saw some owners jump off or tentative about picking him up last week. Since returning from injury, he's posted 82, 93, 110, 69 and 92. These numbers are certainly enough for a start in most leagues.

Mark Blicavs, DEF, Geelong (ADP Nil, 11 per cent)

In the last couple of week, Blicavs has been spending some time in the ruck, which has boosted his numbers. Scores of 78, 101 and 77 in his last three are thanks to an average of five marks and six tackles per game with the bonus points coming from hitouts. The Cats have a favourable run home, taking on only one team currently in the eight.

Jack Silvagni, DEF/FWD, Carlton (ADP Nil, 10 per cent)

An increase in midfield clock and higher time on ground has seen Silvagni's stats increase. Three goals helped him to 109 on Sunday to go with his average of seven marks and five tackles the last two rounds. Snap him up if you're in a deep league.

Midfielders

David Swallow, MID, Gold Coast (ADP 141, 54 per cent)

It's easy to forget about Suns as Fantasy options and there's no wonder Swallow has been dropped to the player pool when he's posting 60s and 70s. With his recent run of form starting with 115 before the bye coupled with 93 and 106 in the last fortnight, he's a good bench cover as you'll find.

Chris Masten, MID, West Coast (ADP 198, 19 per cent)

We shouldn't get too excited by a decent one-off outing, especially in a demolition like the Eagles' win in the Derby. Masten had his highest time on ground of the season against Fremantle to score 92. He's only averaging 62 for the year and that's a long way off the pace for any midfielder. The reason he makes this column is that the final round of dual-position player additions comes next week and Masten is a chance to gain DEF status and some relevance.

Forwards

Jack Newnes, MID/FWD, St Kilda (ADP 186, 46 per cent)

Reaching his 150-game milestone in round 17, Newnes was the talk of the Fantasy Draft community as he averaged more than 90 in the opening seven rounds. From there his output decreased with an average of 56 for the next six weeks before being omitted. Newnes returned with a score of 87 in Hobart and if you think he can regain that early-season form, then he's a must add this week.

Darcy Tucker, MID/FWD, Fremantle (ADP Nil, 21 per cent)

Over the last three rounds, Tucker ranks 13th for points scored. While his 97 v Melbourne and 103 v Carlton could be called anomalies, he racked up 29 disposals against flag favourites West Coast on Saturday night.

Sam Powell-Pepper, MID/FWD, Port Adelaide (ADP 234, 20 per cent)

Plenty of coaches would have jumped off SPP when he was omitted after round 13. Now is the time to jump back on following his 24-disposal, six-tackle and 85-point game as a late call-up for the the Power's line up for the Showdown.

Jy Simpkin, FWD, North Melbourne (ADP Nil, 8 per cent)

Simpkin had a career-high 110 in Hobart on Sunday as he racked up 35 disposals running through North Melbourne's midfield. If you're looking ahead to the Grand Final in round 23, the Roos play against the Demons at Blundstone Arena where he has posted two tons this year.
