Other incidents assessed
Contact between Port Adelaide’s Troy Chaplin and the Western Bulldogs’ Callan Ward from the second quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. The panel said that Ward received the ball and then, when trying to evade Chaplin, jumped into the air. While the Bulldogs’ player was in the air, he was tackled by Chaplin, who took him to the ground. The panel said it was their view the tackle was one continuous action and the force was not excessive in the circumstances. Ward required no medical treatment for the incident. No further action was taken.
Contact between the Western Bulldogs’ Callan Ward and Port Adelaide’s Stephen Salopek from the third quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. The panel said Salopek and Ward were running towards the football and Salopek had gathered the ball. As Salopek gathered the ball, he was bumped by Ward to the back of the shoulder region. There was negligible contact made to the head and neck and Salopek required no medical treatment for the incident. No further action was taken.
Contact between the Western Bulldogs’ Jarrad Grant and Port Adelaide’s Domenic Cassisi from the fourth quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. Due to insufficient footage of the incident, no further action was taken.
Contact between the Sydney Swans’ Shane Mumford and Carlton’s Aaron Joseph from the third quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. The panel said Mumford tackled Joseph with the ball and took him over the boundary line. While the pair were on the ground, Mumford pushed Joseph’s head into the ground in the final part of the tackle. The panel said the force was not sufficient to warrant a reportable offence, and Joseph required no medical treatment for the incident. No further action was taken.
Contact between the Sydney Swans’ Martin Mattner and Carlton’s Jarrad Waite, as well as contact between Waite and Mattner, from the fourth quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. The matter was investigated by the match review panel and, on the evidence of both players that was received, it was determined that no reportable offence had occurred. No further action was taken.
