THE MELBOURNE Cricket Club is awaiting further advice before it adjusts its security procedures in the wake of the Australian government lifting its terror threat level from medium to high on Friday.
In a statement, the MCC said it would continue to work with Victoria Police and other agencies to ensure the safety of patrons.
"The safety and security of MCG patrons is our priority," the statement read.
"In the course of managing the stadium, we receive regular intelligence briefings with respect to security threats and adjust our procedures accordingly.
"Following today's announcement, we will await further advice about any implications on our present procedures.
"With respect to the current AFL Finals Series, the MCC and AFL will continue to work with Victoria Police and other agencies to ensure that our security arrangements remain as robust as possible.”
The MCG is set to host three more AFL finals this September – Friday night's semi-final between Geelong and North Melbourne, Hawthorn's preliminary final next Saturday and the AFL Grand Final on the 27th.
Patersons Stadium also confirmed in a statement there will be increased vigilance on bag screening and security checking processes at all entry points during Saturday night's semi-final between Fremantle and Port Adelaide.
AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan said the League always takes its security precautions "very seriously" when asked about security measures for the Grand Final during a Friday morning radio interview on 3AW.
"We have a security plan for the Grand Final – we always do. We take the security very seriously, we always have," he said.
