WEST Coast has no problem with Lewis Jetta's work ethic and the Eagles players will continue to back him in as he adjusts to life at his new club, says Eagles defender Will Schofield.
Jetta's form has come under the microscope following the Eagles' third road loss of the season last Saturday. He gathered just nine disposals and kicked a goal in the 44-point loss to Geelong.
Jetta failed to lay a tackle although he wasn't alone, with skipper Shannon Hurn and best-and-fairest winner Andrew Gaff also failing to register a tackle in the match.
Jetta has averaged just 12 disposals in his first six games at the Eagles. He averaged 18 last season for the Sydney Swans.
But Schofield launched a staunch defence of Jetta on Monday.
"I don't have any troubles with his work ethic," he said.
"He's been a bit patchy. I think he'd admit that as well.
"He hasn't probably been having the influence that he'd like to have. But knowing Lewy and getting to know him over the pre-season, he's an important part of our team and he's well liked and the boys love having him around the club and in the team.
"I think the biggest one is just getting a bit of confidence for him and knowing that we're backing him in, which we all are.
"I can't imagine it would be easy changing clubs and having to uproot your life and move over to a new state.
"I think we'll continue to back him in and hopefully he grows and has more influence. He's not going to have 30 touches, he's not that sort of player. When he gets the footy we just want him to have more influence. I'm sure he will. I've got no doubt.
Schofield said Jetta had been working hard with the assistant coaches during the week to adjust to the Eagles' systems.
The Eagles' away form has again come into question following the loss to Geelong. The Eagles won the contested possession count by two but got smashed in the clearances and laid just 55 tackles to Geelong's 77.
But Schofield did not think an attitude problem was plaguing the Eagles on the road.
"Obviously results don't lie. It's hard to say whether it's attitude or how the guys are feeling away. It's sometimes hard to pinpoint," he said.
"We were pretty confident going over there that we could really challenge them. That was the disappointing part, that we fell away in stages of the game."
The Eagles face St Kilda on Sunday at Domain Stadium before a trip to Adelaide to face Port Adelaide in a fortnight.
