HAWTHORN might have kept Brisbane Lions star Jonathan Brown to just one goal on Saturday night, but Lions coach Leigh Matthews wasn't concerned.
In fact, Matthews - who celebrated his 750th AFL game as a player and coach with a 25-point win - said the Hawks' double-teaming tactics actually worked in the Lions' favour.
"It was pretty hard (for Brown). He had two blokes on him. But what that did do was enable us to have a player further up field," Matthews said.
"Any team that double teams Jonathan Brown makes it hard for Jonathan Brown but that doesn't necessarily mean they are going to win the game."
Brown finished with just eight possessions and one goal after being well held by Trent Croad and Stephen Gilham.
Meanwhile, Matthews said returning star Nigel Lappin, who came off the field with a corked thigh, is expected to be fit for next Thursday's home clash against St Kilda.
But Matthews said Jamie Charman, who withdrew before the start of the match with an Achilles injury, would not be so lucky.
