A SURFING mishap has delayed Melbourne skipper Nathan Jones' start to 2015.
Melbourne players returned to the club on Monday for their first training session of the year, with Jones a notable absentee.
The club confirmed to AFL.com.au the 26-year-old sustained a cut to his heel while surfing at the weekend.
Jack Watts still on light duties as Demons return
As a result Jones will be on lighter duties this week.
He will resume full training next Monday when the club heads to Maroochydore for its pre-season training camp.
A keen surfer, Jones spent his most recent off-season break traveling and riding waves in Indonesia.
In the 2013 off-season he visited the same region, spending his time surfing in Bali.
Jones signed a four-year contract extension just before Christmas that will keep him at the Demons until at least the end of 2019.
