My fondest memories would include: Seeing nine of our ten premierships.
First going to Hawthorn matches at Glenferrie Oval via train as a 12 year old back in mid 60's and buying the old ten cent record and watching stalwarts like Phil Hay, John Peck, Graham Arthur and David Parkin. Wow did they go in hard.
Then along came a young Tassie "freak" called Peter Hudson. What a champion. It was worth the train trip just to see how many Huddo would kick. I saw him boot 16 goals against Melbourne one day. For someone noted for his ground play, he took some screamers that day.
Who could forget the 1971 Flag against St Kilda and Huddo's 150 goals. The helicopter landing at Waverley Park & 8 goals against Collingwood after a 2 year layoff.
Alan Jeans becoming coach of Hawthorn and assembling the finest, talented team ever. What a team, Lethal Leigh, Tuck, Platten, Brereton, Dunstall, Buckenara, Mew, Langford and more. They were the New Force of the 80's. Premierships, Brownlows, leading goal kickers. With all this, Hawthorn stood for values, respect, family and made you proud to be a Hawthorn Member.
Gary Buckenara's free kick after the siren and goal to win the 1987 Preliminary Final against Melbourne at Waverley Park. We kicked against the wind for three quarters that day and still won.
The back to back flags of 1988/89.
Jason Dunstalls 17 goals against Richmond.
The 1996 Camberwell town hall meeting of Melbourne & Hawthorn people to discuss merger, which fortunately, didn't happen.
Don Scott tearing off the velcro Hawk and saying what have you got, a Melbourne Guernsey. I'll never forget it. Pure Passion.
And finally, the 2008 pennant and Shane Crawford yelling out at presentation, "that's what I'm talking about".
Great Memories and more to come.
Go Hawks.
