1. Gold Coast is back
Nothing went right for the Suns in a nightmare 2015. Gary Ablett barely played as an injury crisis gripped the Glitter Strip, while Harley Bennell's club-imposed suspension and some terrible on-field showings only compounded the dire situation. How times have changed. The Suns' 61-point victory over Essendon in round one was a bright start, but Saturday's brave showing in Perth was among the club's greatest ever triumphs. They still have Mitch Hallahan, Touk Miller, Jaeger O'Meara and David Swallow on the sidelines.

2. The Lynch show
Gold Coast's reigning club champion flexed his muscles at Domain Stadium on Saturday. The big forward caused all sorts of problems for the Dockers, particularly in the second term when he booted two crucial goals as the visitors took charge. Lynch finished with five goals and seven marks to show why he is rated alongside Demon Jesse Hogan and Bomber Joe Daniher as among the AFL's most damaging young targets. His booming set shot in the shadows of three-quarter time was another highlight.

3. Fremantle's defensive leaks
The Dockers have never been the competition's highest scoring club, but it did not seem to matter while they were winning games. At the other end of the ground, however, the number of points last season's minor premiers have conceded in rounds one and two is cause for concern. Last week, the Bulldogs put 103 points past Fremantle and on Saturday night Gold Coast helped themselves to 19.12 (126) - the biggest total scored against Fremantle since 2011. 

4. History is history
Before Saturday's clash, Gold Coast had never beaten Fremantle in five attempts but bucked that lop-sided history on Saturday night with a clinical victory. In what has been the AFL's toughest road trip in recent seasons, Gary Ablett set the tone with an early goal and his side never looked back. It is the first time the Suns have won two matches to start the season and the first time the Dockers have lost two consecutive matches since they dropped their first three games in 2009. 

5. Sandi's giant return
Fee-fi-fo-fum-Freo's giant ruck headache is over. Aaron Sandilands returned from a one-week suspension to tower over Saturday's contest at Domain Stadium. The 211cm big man won 48 hit-outs opposed to Gold Coat's Tom Nicholls, although the visitors finished with a 43-32 advantage at the clearances. With Jonathon Griffin omitted from the Dockers' team Sandilands had to go it alone at the stoppages in a tireless performance. The 33-year-old is reportedly keen to play on next season and on those numbers, why not?
