MATTHEW Pavlich has called for a review into Fremantle's key on- and off-field personnel in the wake of the Dockers' biggest loss.
However, the Freo legend "unequivocally" believes coach Ross Lyon is the best man to lead the club out of the mire.
But the former skipper's view isn't shared by ex-Dockers champion Paul Hasleby, who doubts Lyon can steer Fremantle through a successful rebuild.
Speaking on Channel Nine, Pavlich referenced Richmond's turnaround after a 113-point belting from Sydney in round 23, 2016 as an example of how quickly clubs can bounce back with the right building blocks in place.
"You wouldn't have thought 12 months later they'd win the premiership and be absolute favourites to go back-to-back," he said.
"Things can turn quickly, but a review of all their key people both on and off the field (at Fremantle) must occur."
Pavlich slammed the rebuilding Dockers as "non-competitive and spiritless" in their horrendous 133-point loss to Geelong.
But the 353-game great insisted Lyon, who is contracted until 2020, should still have the club's support.
"Absolutely, unequivocally he is the best man for the job," Pavlich said.
"He was the best coach that I had in my time at Fremantle and I think he's the right man to take this club forward.
"I think there will be a broad review, as there normally is at the end of any season, not only to do with the coaching group, the players, but all the staff as well.
"What needs to be brought in? Some fresh ideas, some new people, new talent, strong character.
"All those things are important. No doubt that will take place."
It is unclear if a review would include the strength and conditioning department, but the Dockers have been severely hampered by a lengthy injury list.
Stephen Hill has suffered repeat quad issues, Harley Bennell continues to battle calf problems, while young defender Griffin Logue (foot) and retired veteran Lee Spurr (knee) failed to make a senior appearance in 2018.
Meanwhile, superstar Nat Fyfe, Luke Ryan, Michael Apeness, Cam Sutcliffe, Brady Grey, Sam Switkowski and Tom North have battled hamstring issues.
While the Dockers have matched last year's eight wins, Hasleby was scathing in his assessment of their playing style.
"The average losing margin is 54 points this year and they've now had nine losses by more than 50 points," he said on 6PR radio station.
"If Ross Lyon was uncontracted at the end of this season, would he be re-signed by the board? I don't think he would.
"I'm unsure whether Ross Lyon can rebuild a list.
"We didn't see it at the end of his tenure at St Kilda and I haven't seen it in the last three years any evidence that he can do that.
"I don't see any structure or system that is working, I don’t see the players on the same page.
"The skills have now gone behind many in the competition.
"There's just too many uncertainties for me to continue on with this rebuild, because if you get two years on down the track and it hasn't worked you don't want to be in a situation where you've rebuilt with all these new players under this style.
"That's the concern for me and I think that's why Ross Lyon is in trouble."
Board member and former great Peter Bell described the performance against Geelong as "indefensible", and conceded it placed Freo under "enormous pressure".
After leading at quarter-time, the Dockers conceded 23 unanswered goals on one of the darkest days in club history.
"Fremantle are a young team, nine players debuting this year, 22 players new to the list in the last two years, there's probably going to be another five or six this year," Bell told ABC radio.
"Notwithstanding all of those points, a performance like that puts the club under enormous pressure.
"Collectively, you share the responsibility for that but, yes, there is a lot of pressure on at the moment."
The Dockers will finish their season at home against third-placed Collingwood on Saturday.
