THE KANGAROOS have held on in one of the games of the season, outlasting the Swans to win a high-octane encounter by 16 points at Telstra Dome.

Entering the final term 30 points in arrears, the Swans stormed home in a six-goal quarter to trail by just four points with five minutes remaining.

But the Roos were not to be denied, eventually holding on for a 16.15 (111) to 14.11 (95) victory.

Earlier in the term, Shannon Grant snapped truly on his left boot with eight minutes remaining to give the Roos a 16-point lead and a near certain victory.

But the Swans responded in kind with majors to Spida Everitt and Michael O'Loughlin and an improbable win for the away side was suddenly within grasp.

Fittingly, it was Grant who sealed the Roos' third consecutive win with his fourth goal.

A sizzling first quarter by the Kangaroos saw them leap to a 30-point lead at half time, with the Roos dominating the first term in a seven-goals-to-one blitzkrieg.

Leigh Brown opened the Kangaroos' account with an easy 25-metre shot, followed by some clean roving work from Drew Petrie minutes later for the Roos' second.

The Kangaroos' next five goals were all from beyond the 50m arc as the Swans struggled to see enough of the pill to feed their forwards.

The Swans steadied in the second quarter to kick the term's opening major, but despite controlling much of the footy was unable to chip away at the Roos' lead.

Goals to Aaron Edwards and Corey Jones put the Roos clear by 39 points in the third quarter, but the Swans surged to kick four goals to one to keep them in the contest.

Shannon Grant finished with four goals and Corey Jones three for the Roos. For the Swans, Barry Hall slotted four goals and Ben Mathews two.
