NORTH Melbourne veteran Shannon Grant has endorsed coach Dean Laidley's comments on his playing future, four days after a solid return in the win over Collingwood.

Laidley suggested on Monday night's On The Couch program that if Grant's form forced another omission this season, he may have to weigh up his future at the level.

"I think it's a fair call," Grant, who hadn't seen the program, said with some surprise.

"There's no favours for anyone in this day and age. The reality is you've got to perform and, if you don't perform, your position in the side is going to come under scrutiny.

"I'm certainly no different to anyone else at the club."

Laidley said early last month that Grant would never be dropped to the VFL while he is coach.

The 31-year-old has missed two games this season; the round 12 loss to Fremantle at Subiaco Oval and a club-imposed suspension for the win over Port Adelaide in round 15.

When asked if he wanted to play on this year, Grant didn't give a clear indication.

"There's been too much going on the last couple of weeks to really give it much consideration," he said, acknowledging the interest in his recent discipline.

"I'm really focused on finishing the year off well. I'm really striving towards playing finals footy again and that's all I'm really concerned about at the moment – being a part of that.

"We've got some pretty important games coming up and destiny's in our own hands. If we continue to win games and continue to play the way we have over the last fortnight, we'll certainly play finals footy."

Grant had 16 possessions, took five marks and kicked 2.2 in the 18-point win over the Magpies.

Should he play the next six matches, his 300th game will come against the Power in round 22.
