CAPTAIN Matthew Pavlich says he can’t guarantee he will sign a new contract with Fremantle by the end of the home and away season, with the 8-2 side almost certain to make the finals for the first time since 2006.

Pavlich, 28, said he was yet to enter negotiations with Fremantle for a new contract beyond this season, and he was not sure when discussions would commence.

However, he said he felt no pressure to commit before season’s end, and would not comment on what impact his signature would have on Fremantle’s season, with the club sitting outright second on the AFL ladder.

“I don’t think it’s my position to understand or comment on a ‘boost’ to the club,” Pavlich said from Fremantle Oval on Monday.

“[I’m] really happy with where it’s placed.

“We haven’t really changed at all from our perspective. We’re happy with how its progressing, and so is the club, we’ll get to a point some time later in the year.

“Things are going along nicely at the moment, and we only have to focus on what’s important and narrow that focus on each week.”

Fremantle posted its biggest score and notched its most emphatic win of the season on Sunday, booting 10.4 in the third term to set up a 61-point win over North Melbourne.

The pleasing thing for Pavlich, who started slowly in the forward line yet still managed to kick four goals, was the form of a number of the side’s young players.

Fremantle had 10 players with three years or less experience playing on Sunday, and every one of them made a valuable contribution.

Pavlich said he currently had a huge amount of confidence in the playing group.

“The great thing has been that the club’s made a strategic plan and put that in place quite some time ago, and we’re starting to see that come through,” the skipper said.

“The satisfying thing from my perspective is to see a young group gelling and playing great football together.

“For a senior player and someone who’s been around for a long time, it’s really satisfying and I’m really enjoying it.”

Pavlich, who said his management had not been approached by Gold Coast, was also tight-lipped on whether coach Mark Harvey would be re-signed in the short-term.

“Mark’s going really well at the moment,” he said.

“He’s coaching fantastically well and he’s got a great support group behind him.

“I’m not going to comment on anything else, except for he’s doing a good job right at this point in time.”

Fremantle held a light recovery session at Fremantle Oval on Monday, with Michael Barlow (hamstring) and Alex Silvagni (ankle) both being put through their paces after missing Sunday’s match.

Barlow completed an extensive fitness test, including a number of repeat sprints, while Silvagni ran laps. Harvey is confident both will be available for Saturday’s clash with Adelaide at AAMI Stadium.
