The Demons and the Power played in the hottest climate they are likely to face all season and Melbourne coach Dean Bailey said the club would adjust its training accordingly.
"It takes a lot of energy out of them. Then when you go from eight or 10 degrees to 30 degrees it is a huge change in the climate you play in. I thought our guys approached the week really well, we got up there a few days early and we trained twice on the ground which was important for us," he said.
"We changed our loads going into the game, we put an extra session coming in off the bye. This week we'll have to pull back on our training just for the recovery and we put the extra load into them the other week."
The Demons face a difficult month ahead with Hawthorn, Geelong, Carlton and West Coast all on the horizon.
Bailey said the Demons were not overwhelmed by their next four weeks and simply had to take a game-by-game approach.
"We've got a tough month ahead of us but next week is always the focus and the future has always been in control," he said.
"We have always been in control of where we're going so this week is a great challenge as next week will be. The Hawks have been a team we have had some really good battles with."
The Demons face some minor injury concerns with Tom Scully (knee) and Jack Trengove (cork) both casualties of Saturday night's win.
But Bailey said there were no serious concerns for the pair who were taken with the first two picks at the 2009 NAB AFL Drat.
"Trenners was walking around on crutches. He had a cork. And like anything that happens in AFL footy, for a cork or something like that they go to the extreme level. I'm surprised we didn't start carrying him around," he said.
"You have time on your legs and when you have a cork you need it to be elevated. That would have been the perception but he's fine today.
"Tommy was walking around OK today. We need to put him through the medical process again today."
