GOLD Coast is confident it can adjust to dry-weather footy against Carlton on Saturday despite a month of playing in the wet.
The Suns won their opening-round match against North Melbourne at a water-logged Cazalys Stadium in Cairns, which followed an intraclub in pouring rain and a JLT Community Series match against Brisbane in wet and heavy conditions.
Now they move to the quickest deck in the country - Etihad Stadium – to take on the Blues.
Tall forward Sam Day says although it will be an adjustment, Gold Coast has plenty of dry weather training during the pre-season to fall back on.
"We're pretty much guaranteed a dry deck on the weekend," Day said.
"It'll be different, but hopefully what we trained in the pre-season will stand up and we'll play some fast, exciting footy."
Ruckman Jarrod Witts – who eventually wore down Todd Goldstein in an excellent duel on Saturday night – said the Suns' game-plan would stand up in the dry.
Gold Coast has built its early season success around defensive pressure and winning at the contest.
"We're going to have to play different tactics and the ball is going to move around a bit quicker," Witts said.
"We have to be ready for that."
Day will line up for his 100th game this weekend, and said despite some heavy legs among his teammates, the Suns were embracing the heavy travel schedule in the first two months and would not be using it as an excuse.
"All the bodies are feeling good," he said.
"As we travel the group gets stronger and closer together because we're away from home. We want to make sure we've got that family feel."
Aaron Hall has resumed training this week after breaking his finger in the JLT match against Brisbane and is in the selection frame.
Sean Lemmens has overcome his hamstring injury but is more likely to return through a NEAFL practice match against the Lions on Saturday.
