SYDNEY Swans coach Paul Roos says his team will look to continue season-best form it displayed against West Coast when Port Adelaide comes to the SCG on Sunday.

Despite the close nature of the five-point victory against the Eagles in round eight, Roos said the Swans’ effort was as good as he’d seen this year.

“I thought we played almost our best game for the year over a four-quarter period. Hopefully we can take that into the game on the weekend and just find a level of consistency,” he said before training at the SCG on Friday.

“There are as many as 14 teams looking for that consistency and we’re certainly one of them.”

Port Adelaide sits fourth after eight rounds, a game ahead of the ninth-placed Swans, and Roos said the visitors would provide a stiff challenge.

Nick Malceski is almost certain to return to the side after a week in the reserves, where he shone with 34 possessions and four goals.

However, key defender Lewis Roberts-Thomson is a less definite prospect to take the field on Sunday, with his troublesome hamstring to be scrutinised carefully.

But even if Roberts-Thomson is forced out, Roos said the Swans had plenty of defensive options to counter in-form Power forward Warren Tredrea, who has booted 27 goals in the past six weeks.

“It really depends – if he plays deep, then it’s Craig Bolton; if he’s further up, it’s Teddy or Lewis Roberts-Thomson,” the Swans coach said.

“Tredders is in fantastic form but you’ve also got a lot of players who complement him down there with [Brad] Ebert and [Daniel] Motlop, [Robbie] Gray and they may bring in [Matthew] Westhoff as another tall down there.

“It’s probably a case of trying to get our match-ups as right as we can and not focus too heavily on one player.”

Roos said his players would take a moment to acknowledge the contribution of their Aboriginal teammates Adam Goodes and Michael O’Loughlin as the AFL celebrates its annual Indigenous Round this weekend.

“The indigenous effect on footy’s been enormous and… the two guys we’ve got now, Goodesy and Mick, have just meant an awful lot to our footy club,” he said.

“We’ll stand back in some way and applaud the Aboriginal guys and what they’ve done for the game. It’s a significant weekend and they’ve made an amazing contribution.

“Our guys are really special guys – they’re great players and they’re great people as well.”
