The AFL has released the following statement after the Match Review Panel's findings from the Round 7 match between Carlton and St Kilda.

The AFL wishes to advise the Match Review Panel has reviewed final match from Round Seven. The following charges were laid:

Charges Laid:
Leigh Montagna, St Kilda, has been charged with misconduct in that he made unreasonable or unnecessary contact with an injured player (Ed Curnow) during the first quarter of the Round Seven match between St Kilda and Carlton, played at Etihad Stadium on Monday May 9, 2011.

In summary, due to his existing poor record of carry-over points from within the last 12 months, his one-game suspension must remain at one game, if he accepts an early plea.

Based on the available video evidence and a medical report from the Carlton Football Club, the incident was classified as intentional conduct (three points), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point). This is a total of five activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Two offence, drawing 125 demerit points and a one-match sanction. He has 93.75 points carried over from within the last 12 months, increasing the penalty to 218.75 points and a two-match sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to 164.06 points and a one-match sanction.

Chris Judd, Carlton, has been charged with a first offence for misconduct in that he was the instigator of a melee during the first quarter break of the Round Seven match between Carlton and St Kilda, played at Etihad Stadium on Monday May 9, 2011.

In summary, he can accept an $1800 sanction with an early plea.

Chris Judd, Carlton, has been charged with a first offence for engaging in a melee during the first quarter break of the Round Seven match between Carlton and St Kilda, played at Etihad Stadium on Monday May 9, 2011.

Other Incidents Assessed:

Contact between St Kilda’s Justin Koschitzke and Carlton’s Ed Curnow from the first quarter of Monday’s match was assessed. The panel said that no contact was made by Koschitzke to the shoulder region that Curnow had previously damaged during the quarter. No further action was taken.
