Andrew Browne and Alex Rance continued their impressive recent VFL form on the weekend, despite Coburg’s 24-point loss to Collingwood.
Browne enjoyed 15 touches and 24 hitouts for the Tigers, while Rance was a standout across half back with 23 possessions and 13 marks.
Dean Polo also collected plenty of the ball, finishing with 32 disposals, and Jayden Post kicked two goals.
But Coburg let slip an opportunity to stay in touch with the top eight with a goalless final term, after trailing by just two points at the last change.
“We thought we were right in the game at half time being six points up, but they really choked us in the third and we found it hard to score,” Coburg coach David Newett said.
“We had a disappointing last quarter. They attacked and put scoreboard pressure on, and we didn’t respond.
“Not enough of our players won their positions on the day. We just need more consistent across four quarters.”
The loss left the Tigers two games and percentage outside the top eight with six games remaining.
“We won’t give up on finals, but we’ve got to win more games. We’ve just got to keep fighting and you never know, a spot might open up,” Newett said.
“We’ll focus on player development and the game plan over the next six weeks, and we want the players to stay positive about where they’re at.”
