COLLINGWOOD has signed former college basketballer Darrean Wyatt as a category B rookie for next season.
The 22-year-old, who hails from Melbourne, stands at 204cm and has spent the past three years with American college basketball side Coastal Georgia.
Wyatt said he was ready for the challenges ahead and would focus on developing his skills as a key forward with the option of performing stints in the ruck.
"I'm 204cm but I can really move like someone a lot shorter … I can get down … so that's my strength," Wyatt told the club's website on Monday.
"Collingwood is a huge business and (has) the best facilities in the League … and it's definitely everything it's cracked up to be.
"(There's) a long way to go yet, but it's definitely a start and I can't wait to get more into it and work harder."
Wyatt will primarily concentrate on a role in attack given the Magpies already boast three ruckmen in Brodie Grundy, Jarrod Witts and American import Mason Cox.
Wyatt said he had sought advice from the 211cm Cox, who was recruited as a category B rookie last year and has since shown encouraging signs at VFL level playing forward and in the ruck.
"Seeing Mason and how happy everyone is with how he's worked and seeing we're (from) similar backgrounds, I've talked a lot to him and he's given me some good advice," Wyatt said.
"Hopefully I follow in his footsteps, so we can both bring a lot to the club."
