All the teams for the remaining Round 2 in the Smithy's VFL.
The round commenced with four matches on Good Friday, with another five matches to be played across Saturday and Sunday.
Star Sydney recruit Taylor Adams will play his first official game for the Swans when he returns from a knee injury in the Smithy’s VFL clash with Richmond at Swinburne Centre on Sunday.
Adams was hurt in the AAMI Community Series game against Brisbane Lions and missed four weeks but has been cleared to play half a game against the Tigers to test the knee ahead of a possible return in Gather Round next week.
Father-son draftee Indhi Kirk is in for his first game of the year after having his appendix out earlier this month, while hybrid forward Harry Morrison and his namesake Hamish have also been called up to replace AFL debutant Caleb Mitchell and rested recruit Joel Hamling.
Richmond’s No.1 VFL signing Joel Garner will play his first game for the club, with Mooroolbark youngster Liam George to also debut alongside Matt Coulthard, pending the late changes announced by the Tigers’ AFL team on Saturday, while Tyler Sonsie is back in the AFL as well.
Footscray will head to Casey Fields with a beefed-up team despite Jack Macrae’s overdue recall to the Western Bulldogs’ team, with six AFL-listed Bulldogs making their first appearances of the season.
Boom father-son draftee Jordan Croft will make his VFL debut and James Harmes returns from his AFL suspension through the VFL.
Defenders Jedd Busslinger and James O’Donnell will also play at Casey Fields, as will Lachie McNeil and Anthony Scott, the latter in his 50th VFL game two years after his 49th and five years since he reached 48.
Macrae is joined in the AFL team by last week’s 50-gamer Taylor Duryea, while Essendon VFL best-and-fairest third placegetter Rhett Montgomerie is also out.
The Demons handed a club debut to Frankston recruit Mitch Szybkowski and recalled springheeled Ziggy Toledo-Glasman and Tom Sheridan alongside Melbourne forward Oliver Sestan, with Taj Woewodin to play in the AFL.
Box Hill Hawks laid down an early indicator to Hawthorn’s AFL team for Easter Monday, with four AFL swaps named for their trip to Geelong on Easter Saturday.
Hawthorn triple premiership star Jack Gunston, ruckman Ned Reeves and tagger Finn Maginness have all been named for the VFL trip to the Cattery, with Jack O’Sullivan and Cooper Stephens back from injury.
Lloyd Meek, Harry Morrison and Henry Hustwaite appear set to play at the MCG on Easter Monday after starring roles against Casey, with key forward Max Ramsden also looking at a call-up, while luckless star James Parsons has had a second season in a row wiped out by injury, this time a torn achilles.
The Cats have flagged an AFL call-up for Toby Conway after he dominated in the VFL last week, with Anakie recruit Ajang Kuol Mun to make his debut and young ball magnet George Stevens to play his first game of the year.
Werribee’s prized recruit Angus Hicks will make his debut for the Tigers as they head north to try repeating last year’s early season road win over Southport in the match of the round at Fankhauser Reserve.
Hicks, who impressed for Richmond last year. is hoping to tread the same path as Geelong draftee Shaun Mannagh.
He is the only inclusion across both teams as he replaces defender Stefan Radovanovic, who has been ruled out for two weeks with a groin injury, with the Sharks naming an unchanged line-up.
Sandringham has handed first games to Dragons’ pair Will Brown and Josh Docking for its home clash with Essendon on Easter Sunday.
Brown played a game for Frankston last year and Docking will be on VFL debut as they get the chance to play, while talented but injury hit forward Jack Hayes and VFL utility Blake Watson come in for AFL call-ups Dan Butler, Anthony Caminiti and Angus Hastie, with Brad Crouch sidelined by a knee injury.
The Bombers have boosted their line-up with Elijah Tsatas, Alwyn Davey and Harry Jones dropped from the AFL team, and they will be desperate to win their spots back.
All matches in the 2024 Smithy’s VFL and VFLW seasons will be live streamed free via the AFL website, AFL Live Official App and VFL App.
Smithy’s VFL broadcast partner, the Seven Network, will broadcast select matches live and free on the Seven Network in Victoria and on 7plus nationally. This week’s game will be Casey Demons vs Box Hill Hawks.
