HAWTHORN midfielder Brad Sewell says his side will not rest on its laurels despite being almost guaranteed of making the finals.

Sunday's win over Melbourne has all but sealed a finals berth for the Hawks but Sewell says the players are not popping the champagne corks just yet.

"We've found a bit of form and heading back in the right direction again. Having said that we're still not 100 per cent," Sewell said on Monday morning.

"Looking at the ladder we're still a chance to get squeezed out so we need to make sure we do everything possible right this week and after that."

The Hawks regain Cyril Rioli from suspension for this week’s crucial match with Fremantle at Aurora Stadium.

Sewell said playing at Hawthorn’s home away from home in Tasmania will give them an edge over their opponents.

“We’re very familiar with the ground and the environment down there and Fremantle maybe not as much," Sewell said.

"It’s a big trip for them so whether that gives us an extra couple per cent, I guess you’d like to think so.”

Sewell talked down suggestions of a rift between coach Alastair Clarkson and president Jeff Kennett after Kennett publically criticised the football department for the team’s recent run of losses.

Sewell said Clarkson and Kennett were both strong-headed and had the best interests of the club at heart.

“They are both passionate men and the footy club is something that they are both heavily involved in. They are both very passionate. It is great for us,” he said.

“Debate is healthy for any organisation, providing it is done in the right manner. That healthy debate means everyone is heavily involved in what we’re trying to do and the outcomes we’re trying to achieve. It’s certainly not a bad thing.”
