TRENT Dennis-Lane and Lewis Jetta haven’t had many opportunities to play together for Sydney this year, but the pair showed on Saturday against Fremantle that they could both provide serious headaches for opposition defences in the 2010 AFL finals.
Both young forwards received nominations for round 20 in the Panasonic Goal of the Year competition for goals against Freo, Dennis-Lane snapping a bouncing checkside goal while surrounded by defenders while Jetta went a long way to icing the game for his team, leaving young Fremantle defender Dylan Roberton in his wake as he sped inside 50 deep into the final term before snapping truly to give the Swans a 10-point lead.
The third nomination for round 20 went to Melbourne’s Liam Jurrah, who showed great skill to kick the ball off the ground from a tight angle for a classy goal against Hawthorn.
Perennial high flyer Nick Riewoldt was back in hunt for the Hungry Jack’s Mark of the Year in round 20, the Saints captain nominated for a fine mark under pressure in the second quarter of the game against North Melbourne, one of 10 grabs he took for the match.
Also nominated were Melbourne’s promising forward Lynden Dunn for a pack mark against the Hawks and Fremantle’s Matthew De Boer for a diving grab on the wing, the young midfielder launching himself a full stretch across the Subiaco turf for a mark that was uncontested but still extremely brave.
