AS A football-loving nation counts the days to the Hall of Fame Tribute Match, many others around the country are preparing their own special contribution.

The match is the highlight of the AFL's Community Football Weekend, but as the only game on it gives players, coaches and supporters the opportunity to make a special trip to their grassroots footy club.

The Community Football Match Locator is a useful tool to find out who's playing and where, whether it's Motton Preston and Wesley Vale, Augusta Margaret River and Busselton or Balywn and Noble Park.

Every club outside of Victoria will run onto the MCG with the Dream Team for the clash against the Big V, with the guernsey worn by captain Andrew McLeod and his men bearing the names of 1246 local clubs.

McLeod's Adelaide teammate Ben Rutten has been endorsed by his coach Neil Craig to line up in the tribute match, even though he won't take his place against the Kangaroos on Saturday night.

Craig has branded the match "an important game for our sport".

So too has Victorian coach Mark Thompson, who says representing your state is a special opportunity and that this year has a whole new meaning; the first State-of-Origin clash since 1999 is also the league's celebration of 150 years.

Thompson recalls his time as a player in the Big V and fans can select from current players and luminaries of the past in naming the best Victorian and Dream Team sides of the last 31 years.

Ten thousand people will have a taste of what it feels like to walk – or run – out onto the MCG for a State-of-Origin clash and will form a giant 150.

Plenty of tickets are still available for the Hall of Fame Tribute match from Ticketmaster, either at ticketmaster.com.au or via the Ticketmaster phone booking service on 1300 136 122.
