MATURE-AGED recruit Brett Eddy is likely to get his chance in the JLT Community Series to push for a spot on Port Adelaide's primary list, after being selected at last year's rookie draft. 

Following a strong pre-season, the 27-year-old rookie is expected to feature prominently in the club's intra-club practice match this Friday before vying for selection in the club's first JLT game against St Kilda the following week.

Port Adelaide football manager Chris Davies told News Corp the rookie had impressed enough to be in the mix. 

"Brett’s worked hard throughout the pre-season to put himself in a spot now where the next month, from the (internal trial) on Friday night to the JLT Series, (it) will be a good opportunity for him to see where he’s at," Davies said. 

Eddy played with Collingwood's VFL team in 2011 before hurting his knee but has kept persisting and starred in the SANFL last season. 

He kicked 74 goals for South Adelaide and was named in the SANFL team of the year. He could be a good foil for key forward Charlie Dixon. 

Clubs that do not have 40 primary-listed players can nominate a rookie before round one.
