ADELAIDE will look to lock in gun youngster Brad Crouch to a new deal a year before the Victorian comes out of contract.

Crouch's first agreement with the club ends after the 2014 season, but AFL.com.au understands Adelaide is hopeful of achieving an extension before the end of this season.

He has played nine games in his debut AFL season and has hit form in recent weeks after spending last year playing at SANFL level. He joined the Crows via the GWS mini-draft at the end of 2011.

His form has peaked over the past five weeks, when he has averaged 26 disposals a week. He starred in the Crows' comeback win over Geelong in round 17, collecting 23 disposals and kicking a goal.

Crouch, who was drafted from the North Ballarat Rebels in the TAC Cup, was named the round 14 NAB AFL Rising Star nominee.

Gold Coast selected Jaeger O'Meara ahead of Crouch at the same mini-draft, and has already signed the midfielder to a two-year contract extension, tying him to the Suns until the end of 2016.

As well as Crouch, the Crows will shift their attention to signing several of their talented inexperienced players.

Rory Laird, Sam Kerridge and Mitch Grigg are others whose contracts will be discussed at the club in coming weeks as it focuses on the future.

Although the Crows' season has been dogged by injuries to key players, Brenton Sanderson has been pleased with the development of his next batch.

"I've been really proud of our young boys," Sanderson said last week.

"Some of those young kids who have had limited AFL exposure have been quite often our best players this year. As a coach, you pick your best 22 – the 22 to win.

"But it is nice when you can pick your best 22 and they're all quite young. It means, short- and long-term, the footy club is in a pretty good position."
