MELBOURNE coach Dean Bailey believes his side's second clash against Hawthorn will be a great opportunity to see how far his team has progressed.

The Demons host the Hawks at the MCG on Sunday after the two sides met in the opening round of the season. But the result was far from what Melbourne hoped for: a 104-point drubbing.

Still, Bailey is not daunted by the challenge of attempting to knock off the undefeated Hawthorn.

"I think this is a great chance to play against, you could argue, the best team in the competition at the moment," Bailey said from the Junction Oval on Tuesday.

"It doesn't phase us … it's a chance for us to play them twice in nine weeks.

"They're in very good form, they haven't lost a game … so it's a great challenge for us."

In terms of players in the mix for a recall this week, Bailey flagged Adem Yze, Chris Johnson, Matthew Whelan and Ben Holland as players who had featured prominently for Sandringham last week.

Meanwhile, Bailey is concerned the new interchange laws will place pressure on all concerned in manning this area.

"I think the passing of tickets to allow players to come on and off puts great pressure on not only the AFL official, but also on our interchange person, so there is now great pressure on those people to get it right, to tell them the right number," Bailey said.

"The more people in the interchange area, it looks messier and it means you might play with 16 players on the ground sometimes … we need to fix that."
