The St Kilda Football Club will be keeping a close eye on the 2014 AFL International Cup, especially the USA v New Zealand blockbuster on Saturday August 16.
The clash between the two heavyweights on Saturday August 16 looms as one of the most anticipated games of the International Cup, especially for three young Saints.
St Kilda’s two international Rookies American Jason Holmes and proud New Zealander Joe Baker-Thomas are taking a keen interest in their respective country's teams, as will Kiwi born Shave Savage.
With Holmes and Baker-Thomas having grown up in the US and New Zealand respectively, the duo are well aware of the difficultly of learning the unique skills need to conquer Australia’s native game.
While Savage moved to Australia at a young age, his New Zealand heritage quickly emerged at this morning’s photoshoot.
The midfielder and Holmes were quick to wrap themselves in their respective flags, with some friendly banter following suit.
The game will be one of the highlights of a special Community Round, held on the middle Saturday of the tournament.
Games will be played before and after suburban, state-league and country football matches, giving International Cup players a taste of the festivities held every week at grounds around Australia.
The New Zealand v USA clash is scheduled as the curtain raiser to the Eastern Football League clash between finals contenders Montrose and Blackburn.
Montrose skipper Sam Goodman and Blackburn’s Kyle Matthews were also on hand to help promote the game, which will be broadcast live via www.efl.com.au
