QUEENSLANDERS look set to be without any AFL level footy for up to three weeks next season because of public transport demands during next year's Commonwealth Games.
The Games will keep Gold Coast's Metricon Stadium out of action for much longer with a temporary athletics track being installed.
However, with almost all of the state's buses being seconded for the Games, the AFL has all but ruled out playing any matches at the Gabba during that period as well.
The Gold Coast Commonwealth Games are scheduled for April 4 to April 15, with lead in and lead out times also being taken into account by League headquarters.
The Suns are looking at options for home games while their venue isn't available, with far north Queensland and the Northern Territory being considered as options.
But selling games back to clubs in other football states appears to have been ruled out.
"We wouldn't like them being sold to other states, moving them to a neutral venue would be our preference if you had to do that," AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan said on Thursday.
"All the buses in Queensland will be used.
"(We) are looking at options in northern Queensland, we've explored Northern Territory, other venues outside major cities and there are challenges with all of those."
It's also possible the Suns will play extra home games in the back end of the season to make up for the shortfall.
Whichever way it works out, McLachlan admits there will have to be some compromise.
"We'll come up with a solution, but it might be a one-off solution that is maybe not consistent with where we've been," he said.
