FREMANTLE president Rick Hart says his club has been devastated by the news that Graham Polak had suffered serious injuries after being hit by a tram.

Polak, 24, was crossing an intersection in suburban Melbourne around 11.30pm (AEST) on Sunday when he was struck.

Polak was drafted by Fremantle at pick No.4 in the 2001 NAB AFL Draft.  He played 73 games and kicked nine goals for Fremantle from 2002 to 2006 before transferring to Richmond for the 2007 season.

Hart said Polak remained a very popular figure at Fremantle both with the players and the club faithful.

“It’s devastating news,” Hart said.

“He is a very popular player over here at Fremantle and we just wish him all the best in his recovery and our thoughts are with his family.

“I got to know him well during his time with our club. He was a very popular young player, obviously very talented and I think he’s really started making a name for himself at Richmond.

“These are very sad circumstances but we are thinking positive thoughts for him and hoping he has a speedy recovery.

“I’m sure the entire AFL community will get right behind him and his family as he works his way through that recovery.”
