A STORIED footy tradition continued on Saturday morning, with the 52nd annual North Melbourne Grand Final breakfast kickstarting the sport's biggest day.
New Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Opposition Leader Bill Shorten were in attendance and, given the recent political climate in the country, were always going to be on the end of the most barbs throughout an entertaining morning.
Morrison was introduced to Elton John's I'm Still Standing, with Kangaroos chairman Ben Buckley using his introduction speech to make light of the country's leader tipping 'Perth', rather than West Coast, on radio earlier this week.
Buckley also joked about extending the red carpet by 18m, as well asking AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan whether the tables should be divided into a 6-6-6 formation across the room.
McLachlan, who was introduced to the television theme song of The Nanny following the recent au pair saga, suggested he would be tipping West Coast on Saturday afternoon – purely so he wouldn't be on the end of another kiss from Collingwood president Eddie McGuire.
North Melbourne was represented by club legend and games record holder Brent Harvey and AFLW star Kaitlyn Ashmore, while the Grand Final clubs were represented by former Collingwood and West Coast players Paul Licuria and Brent Staker respectively.
Fellow Australian sporting athletes Joseph Deng, Lydia Lassila, Bianca Chatfield and Carla Dziwoki were also in attendance at the breakfast.
