HAWTHORN has confirmed it has serious interest in reluctant Sydney Swan Ryan O'Keefe, with the two clubs holding lengthy discussions regarding a possible trade on Monday.

The Hawks met with the Swans at Telstra Dome during the first day of trade week and will continue to attempt to thrash out a deal throughout the week.

"We did raise his name with Sydney today and we'll take that a step further now if we can," the club's general manager of player personnel and strategy Chris Pelchen said, when discussions concluded on Monday afternoon.

"We'll talk to Ryan over the next 24 hours and see what we can ascertain from there."

Earlier, the Swans confirmed O'Keefe has indicated he wishes to be traded to a Melbourne-based club.

While Pelchen said Monday was a generally slow day trade-wise, he confirmed that a number of Hawks have been a subject of interest among rivals.

"It was just normal discussions between clubs trying to work out list changes for a start, so I wouldn't say it was an active day," he said.

"We had a number of players raised today, probably six to eight players have been raised throughout the day.

"We're open minded on all of them."

He said the players spoken about – including forward Tim Boyle – could possibly figure in a trade involving O'Keefe.

"Maybe. I don't want to say too much in terms of speculating on Ryan's future, but we had a short discussion with Sydney and we said we'd meet with them again in the next 48 hours."
