2010 is looking to be a strong year for Port Adelaide Footy Club’s Community sector as the Power kicked off its 11th year of the Power Community Youth Program (CYP), which is targeted at school students years 4-9, both boys and girls, across South Australia.

The Program is delivered by PAFC and Thunderbird players over a 3 week period educating and promoting to students the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, making good decisions, respecting others and how to be a good sport.

Players have had a real buzz getting out and speaking to the students and teachers especially some of Port’s young new recruits at the club. Port Adelaide young guns Jackson Trengove, Jason Davenport Daniel Webb and Thunderbird stars Beth Shimmin, Mel Rowland ,Jo Sutton, Erin Bell and Sharni Layton are some of the athletes who have been out to the schools in the past fortnight.

“Its great to able to get into the schools, especially on our days off to come in and speak to the kids on healthy eating, the negative effects of smoking and for them to have the chance to ask us questions on footy, our pathway and education is great” Webb said

“I’ve really enjoyed it and hope the kids have learnt something from us visiting them”.
