The North Melbourne Football Club confirms that Matt Harrington, the club’s popular and respected Media Manager, has decided to leave the football industry to pursue a career in management in racing. Matt has accepted the position of Racing Manager with leading horse trainer, Danny O’Brien.

After four years in the job at North, Matt decided that the opportunity to work as a manager in another sporting industry close to his heart was too good to pass up.

CEO Eugene Arocca said: “Whilst initially shocked and very disappointed to be losing someone of the calibre of Matt, we understand entirely his ambition to pursue a career in management and it is not surprising that we have lost him to another sport which he loves dearly. He leaves the North Melbourne Football Club with our full blessing and best wishes in pursuing a career in which we have no doubt he will excel.”

“Personally, he has been of enormous help to me over the last 3 months in dealing with the media and has also helped to restructure the community programs that we have been working on. He has a tremendous work ethic and in my view, is one of the best club media managers in the AFL. Our loss is the racing industry’s gain.”

The club will now be looking to secure the services of an experienced media and communications manager.
