DARREN Crocker will remain at North Melbourne after accepting a two-year offer to become senior assistant coach to Brad Scott.
Crocker, 42, was caretaker coach for the Roos' last 10 games of the season following Dean Laidley's departure and made the three-man shortlist for the position awarded to Scott on August 17.
"It's an exciting time for the club," he said in a statement. "A new, young, vibrant coach and an enthusiastic developing list will create an incredible environment at Arden Street for 2010 and beyond.
"After throwing some things around I decided I wanted to be a part of something special and I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to stay at North.
"The new facility is nearing completion and it will give our club a huge boost going into next season."
After five years as an assistant to Danny Frawley at Richmond, Crocker joined Laidley's staff as senior assistant coach for the 2005 season and took control of the squad's backline.
When appointed to the interim role in June, he said he was ready to become a senior coach and reiterated that desire following Scott's appointment.
With Scott watching from the stands, North won its last two games of 2009 – against St Kilda and Port Adelaide.
Chief of football Donald McDonald told afl.com.au last week that the club was keen for Crocker to stay but that he still had to discuss the nature of his role with Scott.
Crocker played 165 games in 12 years for North, including the 1996 premiership.
