THE WESTERN Bulldogs' NAB Cup trophy will be locked in a cupboard in a gesture symbolic of the club's intentions to narrow their focus to season 2010.

Club president David Smorgon urged the 900 people at the club's jumper presentation on Wednesday to have a "good look" at the cup as it was destined to sit in the shadows the 1954 premiership cup at Whitten Oval.

"When this function finishes, it's going to be taken back to Whitten Oval, put into a cupboard under lock and key, and then it's forgotten about," Smorgon said at the Crown Palladium function on Wednesday evening.

"The main focus as of tonight starts with round one. We will leave the NAB Cup behind us.

"We're looking forward to the challenges this season will present. Our aim is to play consistent and competitive football that will underpin our sustainable success."

The event was held at the casino complex for the first time following storm damage to its planned location at Etihad Stadium.

It was held in front of a sold-out crowd, which Smorgon said was an indication of the excitement now surrounding the club.

"We're hoping this will be a decade for the Doggies, and we've started off very well," he said.

"It should be a very successful period for the Bulldogs as compared to other decades where we've said: 'What are we going to do, how are we going to survive?'

"Every one of us has reasons for optimism as we move forward over the next 10 years."

Smorgon said he was confident the club's NAB Cup victory over St Kilda would not create a negative effect on the players or coaching staff.

"We are continuing to build a culture that focuses on the team and putting high demands on our players with a very clear focus on playing finals every year," he said.

"We will not be distracted or averted in our focus, no matter what the media are saying about us.

"We are going to focus on the future and not the past and we're going to let our results do the talking. It's not about short-term success; it's about being a fiercely competitive and ruthless footy club."

The club president acknowledged the efforts of all 46 listed players, the coaches, the medical and fitness personnel and all support staff across the pre-season.

He said the membership target of 35,000 was realistic with 29,500 people already locked in, and urged the 6000 unsigned members from last year to recommit.

He also launched the club's Hall of Fame, which will be held for the first time on May 29 at Crown.
