Adam Thomson (Sturt)
Kicks 10 / Marks 5 / Handballs 8 / Goals 2 / Tackles 2

Adam Thomson played 13 games for the Power in 2006, the last coming in Round 18 against the Roos. Since then he’s been playing for Sturt in the SANFL. This week he hit the form that saw him playing for the Power and Darren Trevena has named him the Cibo Glenelg SANFL Player of the Week.

“Adam was really good at half-forward and on-ball, he got a couple of goals up forward,” Trevena said. “He was very clean around the stoppages. He is getting back to his best and he’ll start putting pressure on the league (AFL) team if he can put a couple of these games together.”

In a bid to get a recall to the Power line-up Thomson’s lifted his work load. Trevena says that now he’s found the right balance.

“With the extra work he was starting to run to the wrong spots without any reward, now he’s thinking about where he is running,” Trevena said. “He tried to change his style to add another string to his bow, but unfortunately it probably made him go the other way.

“His goal has been to kick a couple of goals when he’s resting (up forward), so to reward himself with a couple of goals was good. It was good to see him back into some form and his hands and clearances around stoppages were the best I’ve seen around.

“If he keeps building on that he’ll be putting his name up there. Adam could probably add another 10 touches to his game along with a couple of goals. His opportunity will come and he’ll grab it.”

Once again the Power had a number of players in the local league and there were some performances of note. Here’s how Darren Trevena saw the efforts of the Power players in the SANFL…

Adam Cockshell (Norwood)
K 7 / M 3 / HB 2 / G 3 / T 2
“Cockshell returned to a bit of form based on the benchmark he set in the past. He presented and marked and looked vibrant out on the field.”

Nick Lower (Norwood)
K 7 / M 2 / HB 2 / G 0 / T 0
“Nick played off a half-back flank and was solid throughout the game. He played tough, he spoiled, tackled and did all the tough things and it was a pretty solid game by Nick.”

Travis Boak (Glenelg)
K 12 / M 5 / HB 8 / G 0 / T 1
“Boak played on the wing and was ok. He then got pushed on ball and to the half-back flank and picked up possessions rapidly. He worked quite well and Travis was solid.”

Josh Mahoney (Glenelg)
K 6 / M 3 / HB 1 / G 0 / T 1
“Mahns had a fair game and worked reasonably hard up forward, on ball and off the bench. He’ll take a while to fit into Glenelg’s structure.”

Jonathan Giles (Centrals)
K 6 / M 4 / HB 3 / G 3 / T 0 / HO 11
“Giles was excellent in the ruck against Lenny Clark the ex-Brisbane ruckman. He also played full-forward and kicked three goals. He chased the ball out of the centre and rucked very well.”

Ryan Willits (West Adelaide)
K 8 / M 6 / HB 8 / G 0 / T 0
“Willits probably didn’t play to the standard that he has set himself. He wasn’t allowed to play to his full ability due to the pressure from Central. He still presented well and tried hard without much reward.”

Alipate Carlile (South Adelaide)
K 9 / M5 / HB 7 / G 0 / T 1
“Alipate had a tough day. He had seven goals against him. He tried to play on Chambers a couple of different ways but the delivery to him at times was impossible to stop.”

Hugh Minson (Norwood reserves)
“Hugh kicked 2.1 and played in the ruck and full forward. He copped a corked thigh in the third quarter but played on. He showed good aggression and it was a reasonable game.”

Ryan Williams (Centrals reserves)
“Ryan was solid from half-back. At times both teams didn’t know who was who. At one stage Ryan was tackled by his team-mate because of the tough conditions.”

Gavin Grose (North Adelaide reserves)
“Grose played quite well. He took about 10 marks and had 14 kicks. He played centre half-back and then went up forward in the last quarter and kicked a goal. It was a good game by Gavin. He’ll be pushing for league selection and he has been in their (North Adelaide reserves) best players for the past three weeks.”

Alex Lee (Sturt reserves)
“Alex is going through a rough patch at the moment. He looks to be struggling with confidence. He just needs to keep working and hopefully he can regain his form and confidence to return to the level that we think he is capable of.”

Peter Hardy (Sturt reserves)
“Pete was much improved off his half-back and got in Sturt’s best players. He needs to put a couple of good games together before senior selection. He went back and enjoyed the game and provided lots of run and attack and his use was back to where it was in the past.”
